Jaipur, The Magical City: Inspiration Behind Our First Drop

There are cities that dazzle.

And then, there are cities that linger. Jaipur, for us at My Marigold Summer, is the latter. A city that doesn’t just inspire — it imprints itself on fabric, memory, and mood.

Our first drop was born here — amidst old city walls blushing in hues of terracotta pink, the scent of ittar in the air, and the rhythmic clatter of hand-carved blocks stamping story after story onto pure cotton.

A City Steeped in Story

Jaipur isn’t just a place; it’s a living museum. From the faded grandeur of City Palace and the geometric riddles of Jantar Mantar to the vibrant swirl of Johari Bazaar, the city holds secrets in every stone.

It’s no wonder novelist Alka Joshi chose Jaipur as the setting for both The Henna Artist and The Secret Keeper of Jaipur. Her stories don’t just describe the city — they breathe it in. The dusty rose facades, the scent of sandalwood, the intimate courtyards — all live between her pages, much like they do in the threads of our pieces.

That soul of the city — poetic, persistent — lives on in every artisan workshop tucked behind sandstone alleys. In the centuries-old art of block printing, still passed down like heirlooms. In cotton quilts — razais — that feel like a whisper of comfort and quiet luxury.

Our Jaipur: Slow, Artisanal, Intimate

Our first drop celebrates this intimacy.

You’ll find the softest block-printed cottons, inspired by Sanganeri florals and Bagru dyes. The mirrorwork and thread embroidery on select pieces reflect not just embellishment, but legacy.

Our colour palette? It borrows from Jaipur’s marigold-adorned temples, the twilight skies over Nahargarh, and the faded terracotta blush of Hawa Mahal — that quiet pink the city wears with grace.

This isn’t the Jaipur of whirlwind travel itineraries.

This is the Jaipur we’ve known through slow moments: chai with an old weaver in Bapu Bazaar, the hush of palace courtyards at dusk, the way morning light filters through jharokhas, casting lace-like shadows on weathered stone.

Books, Textiles, and the Feminine Spirit

Books have always been our quiet co-travelers. Stories like The Secret Keeper of Jaipur by Alka Joshi, or The Palace of Illusions by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni, remind us that every woman is part memory, part magic.

Much like our clothing.

Jaipur’s feminine energy — resilient, radiant, and rich with nuance — is sewn into every MMS piece. We design for the modern dreamer who seeks both beauty and depth, and Jaipur gives us both.

It is a city of textiles and traditions, of colour and calm, of artisans who still believe in craft as a form of devotion.

For You, With Love From Jaipur

Whether you’re slipping into a cotton swing dress or wrapping yourself in a hand-quilted dohar, you’re carrying a piece of this magical city with you.
