From India to Vancouver: The Summer We Found a Second Home
There are places you visit, and there are places that somehow feel familiar before you have even had the chance to know them.
For My Marigold Summer, Vancouver became the latter. When we brought our world of Indian craftsmanship, colour and quiet luxury to Canada, we did not quite know what to expect. We came with our dresses, kaftans, Indian muslin, Khadi, silk styles and hand-block prints, but most importantly, we came with the stories behind them.
Four exhibitions later, we came away with something far more meaningful than we could have imagined. People stopped, looked closer, touched the fabrics and asked questions. They wanted to understand the craftsmanship, the textiles and the ideas behind the pieces. They told us that our clothes transported them to a more regal India, one they wanted to discover for themselves.
The Pieces Vancouver Loved
Across our exhibitions, certain pieces kept drawing people back. Our dresses became favourites for their feminine silhouettes and effortless elegance, while our kaftans captured the easy, generous spirit of summer dressing.
There was something particularly special about the response to our Indian muslin and cotton pieces. Light, breathable and beautifully tactile, they showed another side of Indian craftsmanship. Pieces that felt effortless to wear still carried the history and character of the textiles they were made from.
Then came Khadi. People wanted to touch it, understand it and know why it felt so different. The texture, the story and the connection to India's textile heritage made Khadi one of the fabrics that inspired some of our most memorable conversations.
The love extended to our silk styles and hand-block printed pieces too. Visitors were drawn to the richness of the fabrics, the beauty of the prints and the individuality that comes from traditional craftsmanship.
Many told us that the clothing made them feel as though they had stepped into a different India. Not simply an India of colour, but one of old-world beauty, craftsmanship and quiet grandeur. It was incredibly special to hear because that is the India we have always known.
Vancouver, You Have Our Heart
Every brand remembers the people who believed in it at the beginning. For My Marigold Summer, Vancouver will always be one of those places.
Thank you for stopping at our exhibitions, asking questions, touching the fabrics and understanding the history and craftsmanship behind what we were creating. Thank you for being so generous and curious towards a brand bringing a little piece of India into a new home.
We arrived in Vancouver hoping to introduce you to our India. Instead, you reminded us why we created My Marigold Summer in the first place. Everything we imagined for this world becomes more meaningful when someone discovers it, understands it and makes it their own.
Many of the questions you asked have stayed with us. They are already finding their way into the collections we are creating next. We are excited to bring you new pieces, new stories and new interpretations of Indian luxury, created slowly and thoughtfully for you to discover.
Vancouver, thank you for making room for My Marigold Summer.
